Legal Counsel 

Respect is a rapidly growing, not for profit aged care, retirement living and community services provider supporting older Australians to live with dignity, value and belonging. As our organisation continues to expand, we are seeking a dedicated and commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal Team.

About the Role 

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, the Legal Counsel will provide high quality, timely and pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of matters that support our operations and strategic initiatives. 

You will partner with leaders across the organisation and play a key role in ensuring that Respect meets its legal obligations, manages risk effectively and delivers sustainable outcomes for residents, clients and staff. 

Key Responsibilities 

In this diverse and engaging role, your responsibilities will include: 

• Delivering timely, practical legal advice to support operational and strategic objectives. 

• Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents. 

• Supporting mergers and acquisitions, development projects and construction of new facilities. 

• Assisting with property transactions, leasing matters, procurement processes and commercial negotiations. 

• Managing legal disputes, complaints and external correspondence. 

• Overseeing privacy requests, whistleblowing matters and regulatory related issues. 

• Coordinating and managing external legal advisors when specialist expertise is required. 

About You 

We are seeking a Legal Counsel who is confident, commercially savvy and committed to providing practical legal solutions. You will bring: 

• Tertiary qualifications in Law and admission to practise as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction. 

• A minimum of five years post admission experience. 

• Experience in at least one of the following areas: aged care, retirement living, health, construction, procurement, mergers and acquisitions, property, dispute resolution or commercial litigation. 

• Experience working in, or advising, the aged care, health, community services or not for profit sector (desirable).
