About the Role

The Day Therapy Assistant plays an important role in supporting the delivery of engaging therapeutic programs that enhance the health, wellbeing, independence, and quality of life of older adults living in the community. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, the Day Therapy Assistant assists with individual and group activities, helps create welcoming and safe therapy spaces, and supports clients to achieve their rehabilitation, wellness, and personal goals.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team as a Part-Time Day Therapy Assistant based in our Day Therapy Centre in Norwood, Tasmania.

We are looking for someone with a compassionate, client-centred approach, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping others. You will play an important role in creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for our clients while working closely with a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

No two days are the same! As Day Therapy Assistant you will:

  • Assist in the delivery of engaging therapeutic programs including exercise, mobility, cognitive stimulation, and recreational activities tailored to individual client needs and abilities.
  • Prepare and maintain therapy spaces, equipment, and materials to ensure a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment for clients and staff.
  • Support and encourage clients to actively participate in sessions by providing physical or verbal assistance, promoting confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
  • Monitor client participation and wellbeing, communicating observations, concerns, and progress to supervising staff and documenting information accurately and confidentially.
  • Build positive relationships with clients through respectful and inclusive communication, adapting support for clients with varying physical or cognitive abilities, including those living with dementia.
  • Assist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and transport support using appropriate manual handling techniques and mobility aids while maintaining client comfort and safety.

About You

You’ll thrive with us if you have:

Essential:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (or related qualification)
  • Experience in the provision of aged care and/or home care or related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of Home Care and/or Aged Care industry including exposure to the Aged Care Quality Code of Conduct, Aged Care Standards & accreditation process
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrated ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders
  • Client-centric approach and willingness to advocate on behalf of clients
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk management protocols, covering hazard and incident identification and reporting
  • Sound computer and information management skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflict
  • Current National Police Certificate (or ability to acquire)
  • Current First Aid certificate

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Individual Support (or related discipline)
  • Current driver’s license
