General Manager

  • 126 Borilla Street, Emerald Avalon, QLD, Australia, 4720
  • Full time

At Emerald Avalon, residents are recognised as individuals, not patients. Our team and residents often become like extended family, creating a true sense of warmth, belonging, and community. This is a home where meaningful friendships flourish, and where residents are encouraged to stay active and connected, both within our walls and throughout the welcoming township of Emerald.

Life in Emerald
Known as the gateway to the Central Highlands, Emerald is a vibrant, friendly town with tree-lined streets, a thriving arts scene, and a genuine community spirit. From the stunning Emerald Botanic Gardens to bustling local markets and easy access to the region’s natural beauty, it’s a lifestyle that perfectly blends country charm with modern convenience.

About the opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate General Manager to lead Emerald Avalon Residential Aged Care. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older Australians while guiding a dedicated team to deliver the very best in care, compliance, and operational excellence.

Life at Emerald Avalon
Our home is filled with warmth, laughter, and genuine connection. Residents enjoy arts and crafts, live entertainment, movie afternoons, bingo, and weekend barbecues. Our intergenerational playgroup, community outings, shopping trips, and gardening group create daily opportunities for joy and purpose. Every activity is thoughtfully designed to ensure residents feel valued, supported, and free to live life at their own pace.

At Respect Aged Care, our mission is simple - to care for the elderly in our communities in an environment of respect, value, and belonging.
If that resonates with your own leadership philosophy, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

As General Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, ensuring exceptional standards of care, compliance, and staff engagement. You will provide strong, empathetic leadership—balancing clinical excellence with financial and operational performance, all while fostering a supportive, values-driven culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire your team to deliver exceptional, person-centred care.

  • Build trusted relationships with residents, families, and the local community.

  • Ensure full compliance with the Aged Care Act 1997, Quality Standards, and Respect policies.

  • Drive continuous improvement through quality systems, audits, and accreditation readiness.

  • Oversee financial management, budgets, and resource allocation.

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, encouraging collaboration and integrity.

  • Represent the facility professionally in partnerships with health professionals and stakeholders.

What you will bring

  • Strong clinical knowledge aligned with best practice (preferably in aged care).

  • Proven experience in leadership and people management.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).

  • Financial management, budgeting, and rostering expertise.

  • Experience leading teams through organisational change.

  • Minimum three years’ experience in residential aged care.

  • Sound understanding of aged care legislation, funding, and accreditation standards.

Why join Respect?

  • Be part of a purpose-driven organisation making a real difference every day.

  • Join a supportive executive and regional leadership network.

  • Access not-for-profit salary packaging to boost your take-home pay.

  • Enjoy ongoing learning and development opportunities.

  • Work in a values-led culture built on respect, care, teamwork, integrity, courage, innovation, and excellence.

This is your opportunity to lead with purpose. Shaping both the daily life of our residents and the culture of a dedicated care team.

Together, let’s continue building a community where every older person feels respected, valued, and free to live with dignity and joy.
