Chef Supervisor

  • St Ann's, TAS, Australia
  • Full time

Bring your culinary skills to life in a leadership role where food truly matters.
At Respect St Ann’s, we’re seeking a passionate and experienced Chef Supervisor to lead our catering team in a full-time role, Monday to Friday. In this rewarding position, you’ll not only prepare nutritious, home-style meals, but also play a key role in creating a warm, inclusive dining experience that supports the wellbeing and satisfaction of our 123 residents.

This is more than a job; it's a meaningful career opportunity for someone who is ready to make a long-term impact in aged care food service.

Why Join Us at St Ann’s?

  • Work in a large commercial kitchen equipped with all the bells and whistles, plus four fully equipped kitchenettes to meet the diverse needs of our residents.
  • Be part of a resident-focused kitchen where food quality and variety are driven by regular food focus groups and resident feedback.
  • Serve home-style meals that our residents genuinely enjoy – tender meats, hearty soups, warm meals at the right temperature, and an array of delicious desserts and regular high teas.
  • Lead a committed and enthusiastic team who value both fun and food quality. The right Chef will bring confident, diplomatic leadership with a collaborative and respectful approach.
  • Join a team and home looking for stability. After recent changes in our catering department, we’re seeking a long-term team member who is passionate about aged care and understands the importance of getting the food right - every single day.

About Respect

Since 1922, Respect Aged Care has been a proud not-for-profit organisation providing exceptional aged care services across Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales. With a growing network of homes, home care services, and retirement living communities, we believe that:
Everyone deserves the right to a life well-lived, with dignity and respect.

About the Role

As the Chef Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the catering department, managing a team of food services staff, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and aged care standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and review menus in consultation with residents, dietitians, and management, ensuring meals meet nutritional standards and resident preferences.
  • Maintain clear documentation of residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and assistive requirements.
  • Develop, document, and adapt recipes to meet cultural, spiritual, and special dietary needs.
  • Oversee ordering and stock control to align with menu requirements and budgets.
  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of the Food Safety Program.
  • Prepare and cook meals to a high standard, ensuring they are served at the correct temperature and consistency.
  • Address resident feedback and lead a culture of continuous improvement in the kitchen.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a residential aged care setting (more preferred).
  • Several years' experience in a Chef Supervisor or Head Chef role.
  • A genuine passion for creating meals that support health, enjoyment, and dignity in aged care.
  • Strong leadership skills, diplomatic, confident, and approachable, with the ability to lead a diverse team.
  • A desire to build a long-term career in a purpose-driven, stable organisation.

Essential Requirements

  • Trade Cook Certificate or equivalent
  • Food Handling Course and current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience in hospitality (ideally in aged care or healthcare settings)
  • Current National Police Certificate (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to satisfy Aged Care Worker Screening requirements

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and entitlements
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging to increase your take-home pay
  • A stable, meaningful role in a recession-proof sector
  • A healthy, positive workplace culture
  • Ongoing training, learning, and growth opportunities
  • The chance to lead a kitchen where your expertise and ideas are valued

If you're ready to take ownership of a vital kitchen operation and deliver food that truly matters, we'd love to hear from you.
